
Within its efforts to develop a knowledge-based industries sector and to find opportunities for investment in this sector, the Ministry of Industry & Commerce invited the Gulf Organisation for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) to discuss the ideas and perceptions related to developing this sector and highlighting investment opportunities available within infrastructure resources and facilities currently available in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The working group on this study consists of experts form "GOIC" and the World Bank as well as Ministry officials to develop an integrated study includes collecting and analysing relevant information on key emerging technologies in the GCC Region with particular reference to: metals (particularly Aluminum), water treatment, plastics and Chemicals, electronics and semiconductors, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology and other areas. Moreover screening these technologies and identifying suitable opportunities for development of these manufacturing industries in Bahrain considering existing industrial infrastructure in Bahrain, similar initiatives by other GCC Countries and competitive advantages of Bahrain.
During a meeting with the group members, the Minister of Industry and Commerce Zayed R. Alzayani said, "The industrial sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain gains a great attention and focus from the leadership and the government. The strategy of the Ministry focus to develop this sector especially the small and medium enterprises and increase projects that create new career opportunities and provide all facilities and requirements that would expand this sector. "The Ministry is working hard to translate economic vision and put small and medium enterprises at the top of its priorities," the minister added.
