
Minister of Transportation and Acting Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) Kamal bin Ahmed chaired here today the regular meeting of the committee in charge of the development and modernisation of Bahrain International Airport.
The panel discussed the project's latest updates, upcoming steps in terms of tenders and nominating the companies which will handle the development process as well as presenting an overview about the ongoing development, stakeholders' prominent consultations and the transition phase plan.
The Minister lauded the role of ministries participating in the project in accelerating its work flow according to top modern standards.
The aviation sector is one of the most important pillars of the global economy, considering its weight in trade and employment rates, as it is a steadily growing industry that keeps up with the global developments, which requires hard work including basic infrastructure and access to the most modern services and facilities.
He asserted that there is a comprehensive development plan aiming to create a modern building in Bahrain International Airport, provide more opportunities for trade and retail sectors and enhance facilities for shipping, which will be reflected on the creation of new job opportunities for Bahrainis.
The meeting was attended by the committee members, including representatives of the Ministries of Interior, Works, and Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, as well as the Electricity and Water Authority and Bahrain Airport Company.
Senior officials from engineering and design firm Aéroport de Paris Ingérierie (ADPI), the consulting and engineering company in charge of developing the airport's project and the consultancy specialised company of the project's management concerning the development of the airport Hill International also attended.
