
The world's number 3 biggest container ship transited the Suez Canal on Thursday coming from the Mediterranean on way to the Red Sea.
Hong Kong's "Global" container was carrying 193,000 tons, a source at the Suez Canal told MENA.
The ship is coming from the Netherlands on way to Indonesia with 19,100 containers on board.
Suez Canal received the same ship in December on its first journey since it was commissioned in November.
In the meantime, the number of vessels crossing the Suez Canal from January to May this year increased by 3.6% compared to the same period last year.
As many as 7,071ships crossed the Suez Canal during this period, said report issued by the Suez Canal Authority.
Egypt will inaugurate the new Suez canal shipping route on August 6. The new canal aims at speeding up traffic along the existing waterway and boosting revenues.
