Experts called Wednesday to make wise choices to relaunch the country’s industry by focusing on promising sectors.
Speaking during a workshop as part of the National Conference on Economic and Social Development (November 4 - 6) in the Palace of Nations, the participating experts called to identify and capitalize on promising and wealth-creator industry sectors for effective industrial development.
‘‘The State must opt for industrial policy which supports emerging and value added sectors instead of wasting efforts in other small subsidiaries,” said Hacene Boubklia from Oran University.
In this regard, he suggested targeting import substitution industries and also drawing on the exporting countries whose level of development is similar to that of Algeria.
Expert Abdelaziz Kezzar advocated, as for him, to direct efforts toward the development of precision mechanics, '' capital for the Algerian economy. ''
He then recommended the creation of a cluster which will network all the parties directly activating in this industry.
A representative of Ministry of Industry and Mines, Mohamed Tahar Bouarroudj, broached the potential for industrial development in the field of the exploitation of phosphate, hitherto exported unprocessed.
He also emphasized the importance of investing in the rare earth development, considered the oil of the 21st century.
Used in the manufacture of high technology, these metals can become an important source of income for Algeria, he said.
