Egypt's Dar Al-Ifta (the house that issues religious edicts) has said the meat of domesticated donkeys is haram (forbidden) to eat in Islam.
In a statement, the Dar Al-Ifta said some websites claimed that it approved eating domesticated donkeys' meat, noting it is totally fabricated.
Since 2002, several fatwas (religious edicts) were issued to the effect that it is not allowed to eat meat of domesticated donkeys.
Mufti Shawqi Allam said in an edict dated 16 January, 2014 that slaughtering domesticated donkeys for food was not allowed, noting that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has forbidden eating domesticated donkeys' meat at the battle of Khaibar.
