
Minister of Communication and Information Technology Eng. Atef Helmy said his ministry seeks to increase the growth rate of the communications sector to hit 17 percent by 2020.
During his speech in the Economic growth Conference which has been held on Monday, Helmy pointed out that the communications sector's contribution to the Gross Domestic Product is well below level of its real potentials compared with advanced states in this regard.
The ministry, according to Helmy, targets widely spread high-speed Internet in the whole country, hoping to set Egypt as an international hub for Internet in Suez Canal Region.
The minister also disclosed the ministry' scheme in the current period which will include developing the infrastructure of Suez Canal area and linking it with the whole world.
He also added that his ministry intends to take part in manufacturing and designing electronics by which he hopes to reach 70 billion pounds by 2020.
