Egyptian-Iraqi cooperation in energy sector

Egyptian power companies have a chance to contribute to projects in Iraq to install smart meters in the Arab country, the electricity minister has said. Ahmed Imam was recently in Iraq, where he signed a number of agreements to activate cooperation between the two sides. It was agreed that a committee of Egyptian expertise be formed to visit Iraq to get firsthand information about its power needs, Imam said in statements on Friday. Egypt and Iraq will establish a joint electricity firm, the minister added. Iraqi officials welcomed Egyptian investments in their country and vowed to ease all obstacles facing businessmen, Imam noted. Imam had visited Iraq as part of a delegation led by Prime Minister Hisham Qandil to activate joint cooperation agreements between the two countries.
