
The Emirates Red Crescent yesterday delivered a relief convey through the Rafah crossing to the Gaza Strip consisting of 20 trucks of various relief assistance for Gazans affected by recent events in the Strip.
Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Alfalahi, Secretary-General of Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, said that the convey, which has been received by Humaid Al Shamsi, Deputy Secretary-General of the ERC for International Aid, is the fourth one carrying thousands of diverse relief packages, which include food and health kits, blankets, and necessary items for children. He said that these relief items will be distributed to those affected by the events.
So far, the ERC has delivered four convoys to Gaza, with more than 50 trucks carrying tens of thousands of relief packages to those affected by the events, Alfalahi said.
Alfalahi pointed out that the value of assistance provided to the Gaza Strip has now reached US$29 million, including $14 million for the U.A.E. field hospital in Rafah and $15 million for relief assistance transported from Cairo, and equipment from the local market in the Gaza Strip.
Alfalahi stressed that the directives of the Supreme Command of the ERC is to provide assistance at various levels for the Gazan people and that there is a package of future projects under consideration which will be announced in the near future.
