The first batch of Algerian humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, especially in Gaza, arrived Friday aboard three Algerian military aircrafts in the airport of the north-eastern Egyptian city of Ismailia.
The convoy, supervised by the Algerian Red Crescent (CRA), is made up of 75 tonnes of medicine and medical equipment to Gazans, collected by the CRA, the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA), the General Union of Merchants and Craftsmen (UGCAA) and civil society groups.
Many officials from the Algerian Embassy in Cairo were present at the air basis of Ismailia, beside the Algerian delegation accompanying the convoy, led by the secretary general of the Algerian Red Crescent, Ayadi Abderrahmane, and who arrived to Cairo on Thursday.
Ayadi handed over the relief aid to the representative of the Palestinian Red Crescent, Mouna Aref.
Algeria's Ambassador to Cairo, Nadhir Laarbaoui, said the convoy represents donations from the Algerian people to their Palestinian brothers.
It is part of the Algerian aid to Gazans, which includes the financial support decided by President of the Republic just after the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip, he added.
The aid is an expression of Algeria's permanent solidarity and support to the Palestinian people and its fight for their legitimate rights, including the right to an independent state, he underlined.
The ambassador thanked Egyptian civil and military authorities and the Egyptian Red Crescent for facilitating the shipping of the donations to the Gaza Strip.
The aid-laden trucks will subsequently make for Gaza, accompanied by members of the Algerian embassy in Cairo and the Palestinian Red Crescent.
