Egypt will be honored by international organizations for its efforts in combating hunger and reducing the number of hunger sufferers during a celebration on June 7, Egypt’s Ambassador here Amr Helmy said.
The celebration, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization, will be attended by Egyptian Agriculture Minister Salah Helal in addition to a number of heads of state and government, Helmy said in statements Monday.
Egypt was one of the countries that have achieved the Millennium Development Goal target of halving the prevalence of undernourishment by 2015, Helmy said.
The results were announced in the annual UN hunger report (The State of Food Insecurity in the World 2015) published by FAO, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP).
In this context, Helmy received a certificate of appreciation from WFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin for Egypt’s active contribution to international efforts aimed to fight hunger.
