The extraordinary meeting of the council of undersecretaries and heads of statistics agencies and departments of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), kicked off on Tuesday in Muscat, represented by Oman's National Center for Statistics and Information. The two-day meeting, led by Bahrain's Central Informatics Organization (CIO) President Dr. Mohammad Ahmad Al-Amer, will discuss the approval of the constituent budget of the GCC Statistical Center, which will be based in Oman. This extraordinary meeting comes prior to GCC leaders' approval of the center at the previous GCC summit, which was held in Bahrain last December. The establishment of the GCC Statistical Center comes within a framework of the keenness and interest of the GCC states to achieve statistical cooperation between the member states to contribute to the strengthening of the statistical activities and the development of database and comparative statistical information, that contribute to the service and support of the joint resolutions, plans and programs. The center also contributes to raising the efficiency of national statistics and promotes awareness of the importance and value of statistical work.
