The Gross National Product (GNP) reached EGP 2.4 trillion in the 2014/2015 fiscal year, Planning Minister Ashraf el Araby said on Tuesday.
Greater Cairo contributed around 45% of the total GNP, he added.
He made the remarks during a press conference on the methodical regional calculations and their application in light of the economic census of 2012/2013.
He stressed that upper Egypt governorates contributed about 2% of the total GNP.
During the news conference, attended by Local Development Minister Ahmed Zaki Badr, El Araby asserted pointed out that the government seeks to make a balance between expenses and the share of the most poorest governorates.
