The Senate's Financial and Economic Committee discussed various aspects of the ten-year economic plan during its session today.
Senate Speaker Abdel Ra'ouf Rawabdeh said that the plan should conform to the royal vision, adding that it should also set in place a consultative approach for governments to achieve economic development.
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Ibrahim Saif said the ten-year plan represents a vision for Jordan's economy for the next ten years and includes a road map, executive and follow up programs that focus on energy, water, transport and education sectors.
This, he added, was aimed at achieving a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 4.5 percent, and bring the rate of debt down to 60 percent of the GDP instead of the current 85 percent, and the rate of unemployment to 1.6 percent.
Senator Rajai Muasher said the plan's output should reflect positively on citizens as it will help curb poverty and unemployment, stimulate investments and tackle financial imbalances in the budget.
