Egypt and Kuwait have held here on Wednesday a one day economic meeting dedicated to thrashing out economic issues of bilateral benefit at a crucial time as Egypt seeks avenues to redress some of its perennial economic woes.
The meeting had been decided upon on the direct instruction of First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah in concert with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri, said head of the Kuwaiti team to the meeting ambassador Abdelhamid Al-Failakawi, who heads the department of Arab world affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement he specialized KUNA with.
He said the Kuwaiti side to the meeting will propose a number of ideas and projects which, it is hoped, would be of immense benefit to both countries, adding that the economic meeting takes place at a time the two countries find themselves getting closer to each other.
He reiterated Kuwait's congratulations to Egypt on having a successful presidential election and on the winning of President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi the presidential race.
In a similar statement to KUNA, head of the Egyptian side to the economic meeting ambassador Nasser Kamel, who holds the position of Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs, indicated that the meeting showed Kuwait's keenness to respond to the needs of Egypt at a time of transition and change.
He stressed the fact that Kuwait has always been at the vanguard of nations in supporting Egypt politically and economically, noting that the economic meeting today could be seen as the harbinger for a future strategic partnership between the two nations.
He thanked Kuwait, government and people, for standing with Egypt particularly after the events of June 30.
The Kuwaiti team to the economic meeting has among its members Kuwait's ambassador to Egypt Salem Al-Zamanan, Deputy director of the economic department at the Foreign Ministry Tariq Al-Faraj, as well as representatives from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, the Public Authority for Investment, Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.
