Defense Minister General Sedqi Sobhi said Monday his participation with Armed Forces men in donating to "Tahya Misr" (Long Live Egypt) fund was a personal initiative to help build the nation's future.
The initiative is not a support from a state institution but a call on all Egyptians to perform their duties towards their homeland, Sobhi said.
"I am here today as an Egyptian citizen before a commander-in-chief of the armed forces, and we are all, officers or soldiers performing our tasks as citizens in support of the Egyptian economy," he said.
Sobhi along with army officers and personnel donated on Monday to the "Long Live Egypt" fund to support the national economy.
The move came in response to an initiative launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to assist Egypt through its economic crisis.
The Long Live Egypt Fund was launched after a speech given by Sisi on June 24 asking Egyptians to donate money to help the country through its current economic crisis.
