Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab has increased the free-treatment budget allocated for the National Heart Institute (NHI).
Mahlab, who visited the NHI earlier Saturday, called for securing new lands to establish a big branch of the institute to cope with the increasing number of patients and to shorten the waiting lists.
A national campaign to upgrade the NHI should be launched, the premier stressed.
During his inspection visit, Mahlab listened to explanations about services provided by the NHI.
He was also posted on problems facing the NHI. Officials at the NHI told him they have plans to upgrade it.
Mahlab toured the institute to get firsthand information about development work implemented by the Armed Forces' engineering authority.
He stressed the need to consult expertise while upgrading the NHI, which should become a model.
Mahlab was accompanied by Health Minister Adel el Adawi and Giza governor Khaled Zakaria.
