
Ministry of Works (MoW) Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Services Eng. Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al Khayyat revealed that the Ministry awarded 5 tenders worth BD1,855,908 and also invited bids for 7 tenders worth BD10,216,488 in October 2014, all of which aim to serve citizens and residents, support the urban boom that the Kingdom of Bahrain is witnessing and enhance economic development.
According to Al Khayyat, the awarded tenders covered both the roads and sanitary sectors. In the roads sector, the awarded tenders covered the BD1,000,000 time contract for the roads ground connections works (2014-2016), and the BD698,717 revamp of Abu Shaheen, Daibal and Noon Avenues.
In the sanitary sector, the awarded tenders covered the BD87,500 feasibility study for the revamp of storm water drainage infrastructure at the Central Governorate, the BD1,495,000 preventive works for mechanical and electrical maintenance and instrumentation, in addition to the repair of the necessary equipment at Tubli STP for 4 years.
As for the 7 tenders for which bids were invited, the roads sector included works involved in the Sitra Corniche Project, the revamp of roads in Blocks 304 & 311 in Manama, and the engineering consulting services project prior and following the contract for the expansion of Sheikh Zayed Highway.
In the construction sector, the tenders for which bids were invited covered the construction of the Dialysis Center in Riffa; funded by a grant from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the building maintenance works at Sheikh Rashid Equestrian Club in Sakhir.
‘The Procurement Department at the Ministry’s Cost Engineering Directorate approved 116 purchase orders covering various sectors at the Ministry at a cost of BD301,085,’ said Al Khayyat.
The Technical Services Sector also approved a number of pre-qualification applications for suppliers and contractors.
