Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fahkoury, urged the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to support the Jordan 2025 development blueprint since the bank focuses on fields, priorities and strategies similar to those included in Jordan's 10-year plan.
Fakhoury’s remarks came as he led a high economic delegation to the meetings of the EBRD in Georgia's capital, Tbilisi. During the participation, Fakhoury stressed the importance of bank's support to Jordan's projects in areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency, water security, management of solid waste and development of small and medium enterprises, a statement by the planning ministry said Saturday.
The minister said that the ventures will be implemented by the government in partnership with the private sector, and called for the participation and contribution of EBRD in these projects, the statement added.
Fakhoury also stressed that Jordan is the suitable destination for investments due to its laws and a modern legislative system, which has contributed in attracting many investments and also in the implementation of mega projects.
He voiced Jordan's appreciation to the EBRD officials for their efforts to empower southern and eastern Mediterranean countries, including Jordan, which was looking to obtain financial and technical assistance from the Bank to support the development of small and medium companies.
Meanwhile, Jordan has been elected vice-president of the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, along with Belgium, while Italy was elected President of the Board, according to the statement.
