
HE Qatar's Ambassador to Austria Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri on Tuesday handed to Yukiya Amano, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Qatar's ratification document to the 2005 amendments of the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material, which was signed by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
Effective since its adoption in 1980, the convention criminalizes the illegal possession, use and transfer of nuclear materials. Qatar has joined Convention on April 8, 2004.
Qatar's endorsement of the amendments brings the number of countries that ratified them to 83. Seventeen more ratifications are required for the amendments to enter into force.
