An extraordinary senior officials' meeting of the Arab League's Economic and Social Council on Wednesday was dedicated solely to talks on the rules of origin, a remaining obstacle in inter-Arab talks on the Arab League's plans to create an Arab common market 2020.
U.A.E. was represented to the meeting by Mohammed Saleh Shilwah, Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Policies at the Ministry of Economy.
Some Arab League member countries which have industries seen as competitive with products imported within the planned regional common market, still have reservations on the uangreed rules of origin.
A report prepared today by the participants will be submitted to a forthcoming ministerial meeting of the Economic and Social Council on 11 September.
