President of the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) Ziyad Al Homsi has called for strengthening the economic ties between Jordan and the United Kingdom, especially since both the countries are bound by strong historical and political ties.
At a meeting with the British Ambassador to Jordan, Peter Millett, he voiced the hope that stronger ties between the two countries will lead to even better economic ties. The Kingdom's exports to the UK last year did not exceed JD17 million while imports stood at JD193 million.
Al Homsi pointed out to the Second Arab-British Economic Forum held in Britain that had provided an opportunity to promote Jordan's investment climate.
The ambassador underlined his country's desire to forge closer economic relations with Jordan and called for exchange of economic delegations' visits.
The volume of British investments in the Kingdom, that benefited from the Investment Promotion Law, stood at JD1.2 billion at the end of last year. Industrial investments accounted for 55 percent of total investments, followed by the hotel sector with 44 percent.
