Austrian pork producers are hoping to overcome a slump in prices with the potential opening of the Chinese market as an export destination increasingly closer to becoming a reality.
Discussions and negotiations between the two countries on the export of pork have been going on for several years.
The Austrian Economic Chambers (WKO) Monday revealed a preliminary technical meeting of five Austrian pork producers with the Chinese regulatory body, the Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA), had just taken place in Beijing in recent days.
An audit of relevant Austrian producers is reportedly set to take place mid-June, and if approval is given, the pork can then be exported to China
