The goods, the export of which to Russia is banned by Russia’s sanctions against the West may be delivered to Russia disguised as Ukrainian, head of the Russian Federal Customs Service (FCS) Andrei Belyaninov said on Wednesday.
“As for some sections of the border with Ukraine, I would share your concerns over this issue,” he told members of the State Duma lower house of parliament. “We have a feeling that Ukraine has already got membership in the European Union,” he said.
“I share your concerns. The goods and products that are nor actually Ukrainian may be delivered to Russia. All the relevant agencies should take a co-ordinated approach to this. There are reasonable doubts concerning authenticity of the documents presented by the shippers from Ukraine,” the official said.
Belyaninov also said that the FCS has detected the appearance of such channel as “false transit.”
“The so-called false transit channel has opened now. The most typical example of this is the automobile delivery of pork to Ulan-Bator, which we have returned. Meat supplies are also made to such countries as Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Now it’s everyday worries for us,” he said.
He added that a sharp increase in fish imports from the countries that “had previously not boasted such volumes” has been registered. “As soon as we had it out with Norway, such importers as the Faroe Islands and Greenland have emerged. I never knew that these countries make these amounts of fish products,” the Federal Customs Service head said.
