Benin government is taking a series of measures to boost its agricultural sector, an official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fishery said on Friday.
The measures include designating agriculture as a priority sector for investment and planning to create an agriculture development agency charged with designing and implementing development programs.
Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fishery Delphin Koudande also talked about the policies at a meeting on Thursday with cotton producers at Djougou, 381 kilometers northwest of Cotonou, the official said.
The latest diagnostic report showed that the agricultural sector of the West African country is dominated by small farms.
