Britain saw its unemployment rate rise further to 8.3 percent from July to September, the highest since 1996. There were 2.62 million unemployed people aged 16 and above, up 129,000 in the three month ending in September, while the people in employment totaled 29.07 million, down 197,000. The unemployed people aged from 16 to 24 increased by 67,000 over the quarter to reach 1.02 million, including 286,000 people in full-time education who were looking for part-time work. Unemployment rate of these people rose 1.7 percentage points to 21.9 percent. Statistics also showed 1.6 million people claimed Jobseeker's Allowance in October, 5,300 up from September.
