
DP World Chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem has met with the Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in the presence of Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed, in the Maldivian capital, Male.
During the meeting, the two parties discussed potential areas of cooperation and ways in which economic relations could be enhanced to higher levels.
The meeting, which was attended by Minister at the President s Office, Abdulla Ameen, availed an opportunity to brief the Maldivian President on DP World s various developmental initiatives worldwide, and exchange of views on ways in which the company may be able to assist the Maldivian Government in implementing its large-scale developmental projects.
The Maldives has recorded remarkable economic growth over the past two decades attracting foreign investment and trade. Dubai trade with the Maldives registered a growth of 18 per cent during 2013 to reach AED296.4 million compared with AED251.4 million in 2012.
DP World Chairman Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem said, "The Maldives has tremendous potential for growth and there is a close relationship between our two countries. I am honoured to have had this opportunity to discuss how the relationship between our countries can be further strengthened for the benefit of the Maldives and Dubai." The meeting was held following a visit from Mohamed Saeed to Dubai last week, where he met with Bin Sulayem to initiate talks on future cooperation. Moreover, a high level customs delegation from Maldives visited had two weeks ago DP World and Jebel Ali Free Zone and Customs.
