Egypt's General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) has contracted to import 180,000 tons of wheat from Russia and Romania for subsidized bread.
The quantities will be delivered by several firms at an average price of $200.72 per ton, said Mamdouh Abdel Fattah, the authority's deputy chief.
Earlier in the day, Supply Minister Khaled Hanafi said the amounts of wheat delivered by farmers have set a record as the government purchased 5.275 million tons of wheat from local farmers so far.
The domestic wheat supplying season will be concluded next Monday, he added.
