The Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Swiss Embassy in Cairo signed an agreement on Thursday to support recycling electronic waste projects in Egypt.
Under the agreement, Switzerland would provide 1.17 million francs to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the reuse, resale, salvage, recycling, and disposal of electronic waste.
In a statement, the embassy said electronic waste recycling would reduce pollution, preserve precious natural resources, and create new jobs.
Swiss Ambassador Markus Leitner said the project is expected to open door for new jobs and encourage SMEs to develop the emerging industry in Egypt.
