The European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso called Monday for measures to boost job in EU, especially jobs for youth. Barroso made the statement in a press conference following Tripartite Social Summit, in which Barroso and European Union President Herman van Rompuy were meeting with labor and employer leaders. "One of the issues at the very center of our discussion was unemployment, and especially youth unemployment," Barroso said. During the summit, Barroso discussed with Commissioner for Employment Laszlo Andor on measures to raise employment rate with "flexibility in labor market." He also stressed needs for supplying jobs to young people in Europe, an urgent matter nowadays. "We are ready to mobilize funds, namely from the European Social Fund and from other instruments we have, to give an important response to the anxiety of so many of our young people that don't see a future today," Said Barroso. Meanwhile, European Council President Van Rompy also mentioned in the conference that the European Council was working with the Commission on a comprehensive package to create more confidence in the financial sector and in the sovereign bonds of countries under pressure, especially regarding economic growth and employment. "We must therefore ensure that the inevitable budget restructuring is as growth- and job-friendly as possible. We must reallocate income and expenditure at all levels to that end. A policy mix must be found that focuses on investment and a better labor, training and education market," said Van Rompuy.
