Media reports revealed on Friday that EU's exports to Iran increased by 13% in July despite the West's unilateral sanctions against Tehran over its peaceful nuclear program. The value of Iran's trade exchanges with the members of the European Union increased to 913mln euro in July despite all the western sanctions and the extra embargos imposed by the EU against the country. According to a report citing Eurostat website, the overall trade exchanges between the two sides in the month of July amounted to 2.380bln euro. The figure shows that Iran's exports to the EU had a bigger share in the two sides' trade exchanges in July. Despite the hostile policies and moves of the United States and its European allies, Iran has shown a promising trend of growth in area of economy. ran is under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment, saying the demand is politically tainted and illogical. Yet, last year the US and the European Union approved a set of extra unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic over its nuclear program, mostly targeting the country's energy and banking sectors, including a US boycott of gasoline supplies to Iran. But the US fuel embargo on Iran proved futile after Iran boosted domestic production, attained self-sufficiency and even exported gasoline. Iran says that western sanctions and pressures have only consolidated the Iranians' national resolve and encouraged them to reach self-sufficiency in many economic areas, including gasoline production. In December 2010, the New York Times reported that over the past decade, United States-based companies have done billions of dollars in trade with Iran despite sanctions and trade embargoes imposed on Tehran. One American company, the daily said, was permitted to do work on an Iranian gas pipeline, despite sanctions aimed at Iran's gas industry in particular.
