The U.S. Department of Commerce said on Tuesday that rising U.S. exports in the last four years have driven the U.S. economic recovery and created millions of jobs.
The total exports of goods and services reached a record high of 2.3 trillion U.S. dollars in 2013, supporting more than 11.3 million American jobs, according to the report issued by Commerce Department.
"New research provides further evidence that exports are strengthening our economy and creating good jobs," said Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker.
"Nearly one-third of our economic growth since 2009 has been driven by exports," said Pritzker.
Exports witnessed the fourth consecutive year of growth and reached a record high last year, creating 11.3 million export-support jobs, "which is the highest in 20 years," Pritzker said.
Goods exports support 7.1 million jobs, higher than 4.2 million jobs supported by services exports, said the report.
Among 50 states, exports support more jobs in Texas than any other single state, reaching 1.1 million, while Houston topped metropolitan area rankings for a second consecutive year with goods exports of 115 billion dollars.
