German investor confidence posted a surprise gain in
November, rising for the first time since the start of the year, a
survey released Tuesday showed, according to dpa.
The closely watched indicator, which gauges the mood among analysts
and institutional investors, climbed to 11.5 points this month from
minus 3.6 points in October, the Mannheim-based ZEW institute said.
Analysts had expected the indicator to rise by 0.5 points.
But ZEW President Clemens Fuest warned that global frictions,
including the standoff between the West and Russia over Ukraine, had
created a tense international environment.
"The recent growth figures for the euro area suggest that the economy
is stabilising, which contributed to the indicator's increase," said
Fuest.
