Job openings in Germany were at their highest number in 11 years, Germany's labor agency said Monday.
The BA-X index moved up to 184 for March. This was a point higher than the previous month and 20 points more so than March 2014.
Germany news agency DPA reported today that the index is based on surveys of advertisements and requests to labor offices. The Labor Agency in Nuremberg, southern Germany, attributed the vacancies to strong order books at companies and corporate optimism.
Another reason for the rise according to the agency was that Germans were taking advantage of labor demand to shift into better jobs, leaving their old positions vacant. The biggest number of vacancies were in healthcare and in social welfare professions.
