The Trade Association of Germany (HDE) expects a new sales record in the Christmas business in Germany in 2016.
"December is expected to be the strongest sales month we have ever seen," HDE CEO Stefan Genth was quoted by German media as saying on Saturday.
According to Genth, the most popular Christmas gifts among Germans this year are watches and jewelry. As a result, the sales of watches and jewelry this month were 100 percent higher than in November.
In addition, Genth was concerned about the impact of the online business on the classic retail business.
"To ensure that retailers did not soon become a thing of the past, policy must ensure the equality of competition and improve the framework conditions," Genth said.
