Due to fast increase on food prices, India's inflation rises to 4.86 percent in June, versus 4.75 in May, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Monday. The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) reading this month is below local economists' estimation of 5 percent. This is the first increase after four-month declining trend, and WPI in April was revised to 4.77 percent from 4.89 percent. Last week, it was reported that the retail inflation inched up to 9.87 per cent in June, from 9.31 per cent in the previous month, on costlier vegetables and food items.
