Director of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization Mehrdad Jalalipour said that the country's petrochemical production has increased in recent years, and the industry has to find new regional and international markets for exports.
Jalalipour said that Iran's petrochemicals are mainly exported to India, China and the UAE, but the country is trying to find a share in Iraqi and Afghan markets as well as Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries.
Early in January, an official at the National Iranian Petrochemical Company (NIPC) announced that Iran plans to considerably increase its petrochemical production by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2015).
"The NIPC is working hard to increase its petrochemical production to more than 42 million tons by the end of the current year," said Ali Mohammad Bosaqzadeh.
Iran produced 40 million tons of petrochemicals in the last calendar year, with $9bln worth of its products being exported.
