Chairman of Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) Mehmet Buyukeksi on Saturday said that Turkey's exports in May went up 8.6 percent when compared to the same period last year and were worth 12.7 billion USD. Buyukeksi made public Turkey's exports figures for the month of May at TIM's 20th General Assembly meeting. "In the first five months of 2013, Turkey's exports were up 4.4 percent when compared to the same term last year and were worth 62.2 billion USD. Turkey's exports in the last 12 months went up 9.5 percent and reached a value of 153.6 billion USD," Buyukeksi stated. "Most of the exports took place in the automotive sector, with an increase of 11.6 percent. Exports from the chemical substances sector went up 6.2 percent while exports from the ready made garments sector went up 6.8 percent," Buyukeksi said. "In May, Turkey's exports to the European Union (EU) went up 7 percent, exports to the Middle East went up 8 percent and exports to the Commonwealth of Independent States went up 12 percent and to Africa by 8 percent," Buyukeksi noted.
