
Turkish investors have voiced willingness to invest in the construction of Ardebil-Tehran highway, a provincial official announced on Tuesday.
Adviser of Ardebil Governor-General Farzad Kisan said at a meeting with a visiting Turkish delegation in the Northwestern Iranian city on Tuesday that the city council has held primary talks with a Turkish investment company for the construction of Ardebil-Tehran highway.
"We have conducted talks with this investor for the construction of Ardebil-Tehran highway and Ardebil-Miyaneh express railway and its connection to Parsabad (near the border with the Azerbaijan Republic) on the basis of a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model," Kisan continued.
He pointed to the willingness of the Turkish investor to invest in Ardebil city's monorail system as well, and said, "The Turkish investor has voiced his willingness to help Ardebil municipality to construct a monorail system in the city which will reduce the traffic problems of the city."
Iran and Turkey signed 10 economic agreements during a visit by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at the head of a high-ranking delegation to Turkey in June.
The value of trade between Iran and Turkey in the first half of 2014 stood at $6.5bln, according to data released by Turkish Statistical Institute.
Trade between Turkey and Iran stood at $22bln in 2012 before dipping to $14.5bln in the following year due to the economic sanctions imposed on Tehran by the West.
