The US ambassador to Jordan, Alice Wells, visited on Sunday the Zarqa Governorate, east of Amman to see a number of projects funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) there.
During her visit to the Engineering Consulting Bureau at "Hazen and Sawyer and Al-Omran" joint venture located in the Princess Salma suburb, the ambassador reviewed various projects currently underway, the extent to which various procedures have been made transparent and the effective manner in which Zarqa residents are now able to access clean water as well as sanitation services, all courtesy a $275 million grant.
She also visited Khirbet Samra wastewater treatment plant that was expanded in partnership with the private sector and the Ministry of Water and Irrigation to recycle wastewater and use it for agricultural purposes.
Once the expansion exercise is over, the plant will help save 134 million cubic meters of clean water every year, thus adding 15 percent additional water to the total annual supply in Jordan.
Projects carried out by the MCC, the ambassador said, are considered a great example of effective partnership, which allow communities to see for themselves the implementation of various programs in a transparent fashion.
She added that she was looking forward to seeing bigger and broader investments in programs to empower the residents of Zarqa and Jordan so that they can enjoy a healthy and more productive life.
