The US is providing an additional USD 125 million in humanitarian assistance to the UN World Food Program (WFP), which feeds around six million Syrians and Syrian refugees each month.
"More than USD 50 million of this funding will support WFP's distribution of monthly food parcels to the four million people in urgent need of food assistance within Syria," said a State Department release on Tuesday.
In order to assist Syrian refugees, over USD 70 million will go to WFP's electronic food voucher program to allow them to shop in accessible markets.
"The program has also bolstered local economies and reduced the strain placed on communities that have generously opened their doors to refugees from Syria," said the State Department.
