US state department approves possible hellfire missile sales to Egypt

The US State Department has approved the possible sale of air-to-ground Hellfire missiles to Egypt, a spokesman said Friday, according to dpa.
The department notified Congress this week of a potential sale 'to support Egypt's efforts in countering the terrorism threat that the country faces, particularly in the Sinai,' State Department spokesman Jeff Rathke said.
'No sale has been concluded yet. This was a notification of a potential sale, as required by law.'
