
Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy, Christopher Smith, said Sunday in Oran, the United States is willing to to strengthen the means of cooperation with Algeria in shale gas exploitation.
The exploitation of shale gas requires advanced technology. The United States aspire to further strengthen the means of collaboration with Algeria in this area," the American official stressed at the opening of the international conference on gas industry in Algeria, held at the Convention Centre "Ahmed Benahmed" in Oran.
"Algeria has a large potential for unconventional resources, their exploitation requires advanced technology that we can share with other countries including Algeria. We aim at finding ways and means of enhancing the existing cooperation with this country," he added.
Christopher Smith gave a brief historical overview of the development of this sector in the United States, which was launched in the 70s and helped so far create more than 600,000 jobs.
