Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba)’s position as a strong advocate for employees’ involvement in community sporting events was bolstered through sponsorship support of the Alba Filipino Basketball Team’s participation in the 38th season of the Filipino Club Basketball Group Tournament. The tournament will commence on September 7, 2012 and expected to conclude by December 2012. The games will be held every Friday at the Muharraq Club, Arad. Alba’s Filipino employees have formed a team to take part in this tournament, which will have a total of 40 teams competing for the winners’ cup. Alba’s Chief Executive, Laurent Schmitt met the captain of the team, Tony Cenit from Mechanical Maintenance (Casthouse) and team coach, Rodrigo Cleofas from Mechanical Maintenance (Rodding) to wish them success in the tournament. Commenting on the Alba Filipino Basketball Team’s participation in the tournament, Alba’s Chief Executive, Laurent Schmitt said: “Alba employees -- whether Bahraini or expatriate -- are closely involved in various community events, and praised for their contribution. Sports is one area where our employees have shown tremendous enthusiasm, and their participation has provided the opportunity to share their team spirit that has shaped Alba’s work ethic for the past forty years. We would like to wish our Filipino employees all the best as they take part in this tournament.” The Filipino Club Basketball Group – the main organiser of the tournament – has more than 700 members. The tournament draws its strength from the immense popularity of the sport in Philippines, and attracts large number of spectators covering diverse nationalities represented in Bahrain. All proceeds from the tournament will go towards charity.
