
Emirates Identity Authority (Emirates ID) sent around 2 million text messages during the past three months to the ID card applicants regarding the status of their application and the card, the authority revealed on Monday. The authority sent 1. 92 million text message to 822, 325 ID card applicants during the period of Feb 22 to June 06, 2011, Emirates ID said in a statement. A senior official told Gulf News on Monday that the authority is sending the texts after the cards are printed, alerting him or her to collect the card from the distributor. "We have also started sending the text messages to all ID card holders about the expiry of their cards. We alert them before one month of expiry date," Abdul Aziz Al Maamri, Director of Public Relations at Emirates ID, said. From / Gulf News
