Electricity and Water Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdulmajeed Ali AL Awadhi has today signed an agreement with the UK-based Consultancy Firm Mott MacDonald Limited to provide consultancy services for the 400kV Transmission Development Project 2009-2013 for a value of BD3,398,144. Dr. Al-Alawadhi EWA's keenness to cooperate with the firm to implement the project as early as possible within the time frame of the contract. Under this agreement, Mott MacDonald Limited will provide full consultancy services including investigations, designs, construction supervision and overall project management. The objective of the project is to eradicate the excessive short-circuit currents in the existing electricity transmission networks and to enable the transfer of bulk power more efficiently and economically from production stations to load centers throughout the Kingdom. The scope of works of the project comprises establishment of a new high-voltage power network operating at 400kV including construction of a number of substations and installation of underground transmission lines. The new 400kV network will be linked with the existing networks in selected locations depending on the technical studies to be carried out by the consultant. The project is scheduled to be completed by end of December 2013.
