The Federal Electricity and Water Authority, or (Fewa) has signed two contracts with the Saudi National Contracting Company Limited (NCC) for commissioning a 33/11 kv transmission station and upgrading a number of 33/11 kv and 132/33/11 kv stations in the western region (Ajman and Umm Al Qaiwain), central and eastern region (Fujairah and Diba) and northern region (Ras Al Khaimah). The contracts envisage civil and cable works, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and will cater for demand from the northern part from 2013 up to 2018. Works on the projects, which worth Dh850 million, are expected to be completed in 15 months from date of signing the contracts. Fewa director general Mohammed Saleh, who signed the contracts with NCC Executive Manager Abdul Malek Al Barahim, said these stations were part of the second phase of Fewa's plan for building new stations and upgrading operating ones at a total cost of Dh1.5 billion. More contracts for overhead power lines would be inked. Once completed, he said, the second phase will boost Fewa's grid capacity.
