American automaker, Ford Motors has recalled nearly 485,000 vehicles of its top-selling Escape SUVs to fix sticking gas pedals that would lead into a risk of a car crash, the company announced. A potential car crash would happen when the driver’s foot contacting the side of the brake pedal while transferring the foot from the accelerator pedal to the brake pedal, increasing stopping distances. Ford said it decided to recall 425,000 Escapes within the U.S. and other 60,000 Escapes overseas, from the 2001 through 2004 model years. This step comes after the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received 68 complaints about the problem, including 13 crashes, nine injuries and one death, also a teenage girl died when an Escape crashed in Arizona in January. In the meantime, Escape owners can take their vehicles to dealers, who will disconnect the cruise control and eliminate the risk of the problem happening, Ford spokeswoman Marcey Zwiebel said.
