General Motors Co. unveiled its 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in Detroit Monday, calling it "the most capable Corvette ever." "The 2015 Corvette Z06 is truly a world-class super car. It rivals the performance, design, technology and visceral driving experience of any exotic car. It is our most capable Corvette ever," GM North America President Mark Reuss said at the North American International Auto Show that opened at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit Monday. The sleek sports car, unveiled in a loud canary yellow, is muscled by a LT4 6.2-liter, supercharged V-8 engine, the Detroit News reported. The car features a new eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, which are levers or paddles mounted as part of the steering wheel for shifting gears. Corvette would not divulge a price, but the car's chief engineer, Tadge Juechter, said it was in range of previous models. "If you could afford [the] previous generation Z06, you'll be able to afford this one," he said. The basic 2013 Corvette Z06 had a stick price of $77,590. The car could also be viewed as a symbol of the resurrection of GM after its 2009 bankruptcy, said Karl Brauer, senior director of insights at Kelley Blue Book. "I think it's very significant because it really kind of puts a ribbon around the new Chevrolet Corvette, that model, and performance of the Chevrolet brand," he said, noting that sinking money into a low-volume product such at the Corvette was a sign that the company was doing well.
