
Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest smartphone maker, sold more than 15 million smartphones in China in the second quarter of this year, retaining its position as the top smartphone seller in the world's most populous country for six straight quarters, data showed Tuesday. Samsung sold some 15.3 million smartphones in China, home to the world's largest smartphone market by volume, in the April-June period, accounting for a 19.4 percent market share, up 0.9 percentage point from the previous quarter, according to the data compiled by Strategy Analytics, a U.S. market research group. Chinese handset makers such as Lenovo, Coolpad and ZTE saw their market shares range from 9.7 percent to 12.3 percent in the second quarter. Huawei Technologies Co., however, saw its market share drop 2.4 percentage points to 9.6 percent, according to the data. The data also showed that iPhone maker Apple Inc. sold 3.4 million units in China, and garnered a 4.3 percent share during the second quarter. Chinese consumers bought 78.8 million smartphones in the second quarter, accounting for about 34 percent of all shipments worldwide
