Al-Saleh to participate at GCC committee for trade cooperation

Minister of Commerce and Industry Anas Al-Saleh will be heading to Riyadh on Tuesday to attend the 48th ministerial meeting of the GCC Committee for Trade Cooperation. The committee will discuss on Wednesday the unified GCC law for consumer protection. The meeting will also probe a number of trade and economic issues of common interests and the obstacles that prevent the application of some of them, as well as easing and speeding up the movement of goods of GCC member states, said the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in a press statement. The meeting will pass and follow up on a number of laws and activities among the six countries as a response to the directives of the member states' leaders, it added. The ministerial meeting will also discuss all the topics reviewed by the undersecretaries at the 39th committee's meeting last September, including the general secretariat's memorandum regarding the obstacles of trade among the GCC countries as well as the recommendations of the heads of consumer protection bodies to adopt the unified law. The Gulf commerce ministries will review the general secretariat's memorandum on the unified law to combat fraud in the GCC states, to provide electronic copies of the commercial records of the exporters and importers at the entry ports. They will also review the recommendations of World Trade Organization (WTO) and the manual of procedures and models of economic activities in the commercial and industrial fields of the member states. The specialized official institutions of the GCC countries are awaiting the meeting's approval resolution of a package of joint laws and provisions between the GCC states in order to promote trade unity and transactions, the statement added.
